Dr Allen has been a professional mental health counselor since 1989. She works with adults and sees clients who present with a variety of issues. Depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma recovery, couple’s counseling, and sex addiction are her primary areas of focus. She also has a special interest in working with First Responders. In addition, Dr. Allen has been certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and is a DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) informed therapist. She draws upon multiple counseling models and implements a wide spectrum of therapeutic interventions. In addition to counseling, Janet is a Certified Life Coach, a Certified Yoga Instructor, and has been trained in Mediation. She enjoys both individual counseling and facilitating therapy groups. She has extensive experience teaching and enjoys developing presentations and workshops to suit a variety of audiences. She has a TEDx talk on resilience that can be accessed below.
Dr. Allen believes that the human potential is nearly limitless and that meaningful relationships are the basis for our mental and emotional health. Personal struggles are not problems to be avoided but rather they present the opportunity to learn, grow, and become the better version of ourselves. She believes that in a safe and supportive environment, people can acquire the necessary insight and skill to confront obstacles, and move forward in their lives. Her message is one of living authentically with a sense of purpose, connection, and intentionality.
Janet is married and has four children. She lives in Idaho Falls and finds personal fulfillment in assisting others in their efforts to become the best version of themselves.
